This marvelous pair of 19th Century portraits are of Matilda and Joseph, presumably husband and wife. Joseph appears to be a military officer, perhaps German or Austrian in the mid-19th Century. Matilda wears a beautiful blue dress, completed be very finely painted jewelry. This handsome couple are in identical bronze colored metal frames, an embellished floral motif on top with velvet matting, as well as a green moire taffeta backing with hanging ring. There is no apparent artist's signature, but one portrait has "Matilda" and the other "Joseph." Measurements for these fabulous creations are: Height from top to bottom=7.5 inches, Width side to side=5-1/4 inches, Oval height=3-3/4 inches, Oval width=2-3/4 inches. This marvelous pair of miniature portraits have been well cared for, gently displayed and are in excellent antique condition, free from fading, cracks or other imperfections. Under magnification, metal frames show slight scratching along the edges, but floral filigree header is without damage. This fabulous pair of miniature portraits are the perfect addition to your collection, particularly if you like the European theme! Research demonstrated that this may be a portrait of Napoleon II, named Napoleon Francois Charles Joseph Bonaparte. He was Prince Imperial, King of Rome, Duke of Reichstadt. He was the son of Napoléon I and his second wife Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria.
