Pair Of Signed Orientalist Watercolours By Carl Werner, 19th Century

Chairish

$3,000

A beautiful pair of orientalist watercolours by the renowned German artist Carl Friedrich Heinrich Werner, one of the leading 19th-century Orientalist painters. Both works depict lively everyday scenes from Istanbul (Constantinople), capturing the atmosphere, architecture, and people of the Ottoman capital in the second half of the 19th century. First painting: Two men in elaborate oriental garments (one with a green turban and prayer beads) converse in a shaded courtyard with a mosque in the background. Vibrant details, beautiful light effects, and authentic atmosphere of old Constantinople. Second painting: Two elderly men in traditional Turkish attire stand on a sunlit street in Istanbul. One wears a red fez and holds a walking stick, the other is dressed in a white robe. Rich colours and masterful attention to detail in clothing, faces, and architecture. Details: Signed: C. Werner (signed on both works) Technique: Watercolour on paper Frames: Original gilt frames with mats Carl Werner travelled extensively through the Middle East and was particularly known for his high-quality watercolours of Turkish, Egyptian, and Italian scenes. His works are highly sought after by collectors of Orientalist art. This decorative pair looks wonderful together and represents a fine example of 19th-century Orientalism
