Mike Wright, born in 1959 in Northern California, is a painter of landscapes and architectural subjects in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. His landscapes reflect a lifelong love of the outdoors and a deep connection with the desert. He is an avid backpacker and hiker and has taken many trips to the southwest to paint plein air. His major art influences include Maynard Dixon and Jimmy Swinnerton. Wright’s mother was a college art teacher so he was exposed to good art and learned theory and technique from an early age. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Sacramento State University in 1983. He lives in Santa Cruz and travels every year to paint the desert.
