Over three hundred attendees fill the frame in remarkable detail — faces, hats, corsages, and DAR pins all clearly visible. The numbered table cards throughout may help cross-reference against surviving chapter records or luncheon programs. The photograph was taken by Schutz Photo, 1516 H St. N.W., Washington D.C., a professional studio well known for documenting significant civic gatherings in the capital. New York has always been one of the DAR's most active state organizations, with a membership roll that has included actress Lillian Gish and philanthropist Caroline Ferriday — women who combined their Revolutionary lineage with remarkable public lives. Marguerite Courtright Patton was serving as DAR President General at the time this photograph was taken, having taken office in 1950.
