Jacoulet's "Les Jades: Chinoise" (Jade Lady: Chinese) was printed around 1940 and turned out to be his most popular woodblock, resulting in a larger than normal printing -- 350 plus 30 proofs; as many as 100+ of which are considered lost. The quality of the printing, and of the vegetable colors used, was outstanding. This particular print seems to be one of Jacoulet's second state printing, by Onodera and Fujii; the carver was Maeda, the seal: Boat. It's no surprise, given the masterful use of color and the subject matter (a young, beautiful Chinese woman, originally considered an aristocratic Manchurian lady, but in reality a servant of Jacoulet's mother), that this print resonated so loudly with Jacoulet's admirers and clients, among them various world-wide luminaries. This particular print has some damages along the margins, all visible in the photo provided. The image itself, to my eye, looks impeccable. If there's any fading, it's minimal, and there are no apparent damages to the surface.
