'Port De Vendres', A Large And Lyrical, Post-Impressionist View Of This Picturesque Harbor On The Côte Vermeille In The South Of France

Chairish

$1,450

By Anthony McNaught (American, 1952-2026). Inscribed verso, with certification of authenticity by the artist's son and inscribed '(After Derain, 1905)', with number and limitation '25/375', titled 'Port de Vendres' and dated 2020. A substantial, Post-Impressionist harbor scene showing a sun-drenched view of the port of Vendres on the Côte Vermeille in the South of France with sailing boats moored to the wharves and a view beyond towards terracotta roofs against verdant, green hills, all beneath a violet-tinged sunset sky. A bright and breezy, full-size giclée of the artist's original oil painting, modeled after the 1905 work by André Derain (French, 1880-1954), now held in the permanent collection of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. This Post-Impressionist and Abstract Expressionist artist studied at the Esalen Institute with Erin Gafill and Tom Birmingham and, later, at the Santa Cruz Art League. Ant McNaught currently lived, painted and made music in Santa Cruz, California.
