Rendered with the ethereal background and casual elegance of a mid-century society woman’s portrait slated for her Palm Beach master suite, the subject in this work is instead a young man. The artist's signature is indecipherable, and possibly the sitter is named Marvin Edwards as written on the verso, but through the unknown artist’s skill, the sitter is someone whose passivity in the chair belies the intense distrust in his fierce gaze.
