On the right edge there are almost invisible gluing folds The importance of this image lies not only in Garibaldi's portrait power, but also in the photographer's history. Lodovico Tuminello was one of the pioneers of photography in Rome, where he photographed portraits of famous characters and views of the city. Before opening the famous atelier in Via dei Condotti, he was exiled from Rome for taking part in the Roman Republic of 1849, one of the first revolutionary movements in Italy that occurred before the arrival of Giuseppe Garibaldi. Therefore in this image a comparison takes place between two revolutionaries, who differently offered their lives for the same cause. This famous portrait depicts Giuseppe Garibaldi at a mature age and from other sources we know that it was made in Rome in 1874, that is, a few years after the ''breach of Porta Pia''
