Rare Gregorio Prestopino 'Nude Bathers' Modernist Lithograph - Matisse Style

Chairish

$495

This is just a great original piece. I have had a few Gregorio Prestopino works in the past and have always thought that he is an under appreciated artist. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. I actually had another example of this work in the past and it sold right away. This one is even nicer as it is framed beautifully and ready to hang. Signed and numbered in pencil lower left. A large lithograph on paper measuring 22 x 30 inches. Excellent condition. Print is float mounted to an archival backing that is then backed by a black background that is a bit bigger so it looks like a matte. Complimentary silver wood frame is ready to hang. Just a great complete package. Frame measures 26 3/4 x 33 1/2 inches. For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from askart reads: " Gregorio Prestopino was born in New York City's Little Italy and attended the National Academy of Design at the age of 14. There he was influenced by the Ashcan painters and their depiction of urban life. In 1934, Prestopino summered at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, N.H. and became a director in 1954, which influenced his art. Prestopino's work ranged from the "citizens of Harlem and ending with imaginary creatures inhabiting the landscapes of New Hampshire." Throughout his career he taught painting at the Brooklyn Museum School (1946-51); New School of Social Research (1950-67); and was an artist-in-residence at Michigan State University (1960). "
