One of those dealers was Howard Berge who commissioned what is known as the “Millennium Impressions” in the early 2000's, the last known printings from eight of the plates that he purchased in 1993.Jun 12, 2019 The "Millennium Edition" of Rembrandt's etchings refers to a limited reprinting of eight of Rembrandt's original copper plates, commissioned by collector Howard Berger in the late 20th century. These re-impressions, produced over a ten-year period, were part of a larger sale of Rembrandt's plates in 1993. Master printers Emiliano Sorini and Marjorie Van Dyke were involved in the process. Following Rembrandt’s passing in 1669, his remaining copper etching plates virtually stayed intact as they passed from collector to collector until 1993 when a sale at the London Original Print Fair dispersed the plates around the globe. The UK Independent, at the time, described the plates being sold as “like chips off the True Cross.” Following the 1993 sale, collector Howard Berger acquired eight of the plates. He then teamed with master printers Emiliano Sorini and Marjorie Van Dyke to pull impressions from Rembrandt’s original copper plates.
