Perhaps a study for a large, verre eglomise painting. Rene Buthaud was a master French Art Deco ceramicist and painter, created multiple notable charcoal works on paper depicting reclining female nudes. These drawings were primarily utilized as stylistic preparatory studies for his elaborate glazed earthenware vases, decorative plaques, or large verre églomisé (gilded glass) paintings.
