Provenance: Pompano Beach Art Gallery, Pompano Beach, Florida This fine work by Robert Motherwell (American, 1915-1991) is a superb example of his mid-1970s abstract expressionist period. Executed in ink on handmade paper, the piece measures 11 inches high by 16 inches wide and is signed in the upper right corner with the artist's distinctive mark, 'RM '76'. The artwork has the provenance from the Pompano Beach Art Gallery in Pompano Beach, Florida. This work is beautifully framed in an elegant Italian giltwood frame with glass. The framed dimensions are 26 inches high, 30 inches wide, and 1 inch deep. Robert Motherwell was a prominent figure among the American abstract expressionists and one of the youngest members of the influential New York School, which included contemporaries such as William de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko. As a painter, printmaker, and editor of The Dada Painters and Poets: An Anthology, Motherwell was known for his intellectual approach to art, combining bold gestural forms with philosophical depth.
