Robert Ritter (American b. 1949) Mid-Century Surrealist oil painting of a figure in interior. The nude figure stands beside an open door with draped fabric. Lemons are scattered on a harlequin checkerboard floor. Signed lower right. Small size perfect for a gallery wall - measures 7 3/4" x 6 1/8". Good condition. Unframed. Robert Ritter is an American commercial artist and illustrator born in Buffalo, New York in 1949. He is widely recognized for his distinct figurative work, portraits and a successful decade-long career in fashion illustration. Ritter entered the professional art world directly by securing a position as an illustrator's assistant at a large, upscale advertising agency. Ritter demonstrated a remarkable gift for figure drawing early in his career. He submitted an original design to The Chicago Tribune fashion contest and won the top award. Following his contest success, Biefield Studios in Chicago offered him a position as a fashion illustrator. He worked there for over ten years, building a strong reputation as an established commercial artist. Ritter's fine art portfolio features expressive portraits and stylized figures. He frequently utilizes gouache, watercolor, and mixed media.
