Romano Parmeggiani, Untitled, Lithograph, 1980

Chairish

$279

Lithograph on Magnani-Pescia paper. Paper size 80cm x 59cm, work size 61cm x 38cm. Excellent condition, no defects. Hand colored by the artist. The master Romano Parmeggiani was born in Venice in 1930 and moved to Rome in 1958. He died at the age of 72 in Santoro, near Vicenza. The singularity of Parmeggiani, in addition to that hyperrealism of the depths of history, is given by the substantial spectacular, theatrical, manneristic mediation that he makes of myths and secular visions, or rather neo-pagan, and which are not immediately utilitarian and easy to consume. In this apparent certainty of images, each figure is precarious, only held upright by a painter who shows a dominant thought of clarity, of construction and of a new annunciation that must also be there, which has something, in the lyrical tension and in the morality, of the delirium for the evening horizon of a Caspar David Friedrich." The ruined city, and as if rebuilt in the theater, is almost always the historical place of the imagination where a new gesture of life of the senses, of life of thoughts, of annunciation is triggered. Nature is almost always of serene tragedy: whether exemplified by the ancient iguana of a petrified green but also survived many human civilizations or exemplified by the little tree of the Roman meadows on the outskirts or of the Venetian gardens or even by the grass that grows on the stones. The trompe-l'oeil on history is strong, but the trap for our gaze brings us a big question about our present, about the city and about possible annunciations. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
