Sally Kissinger Wilt was a native of Indiana, but spent most of her years as an artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from Indiana University in 1958, Magna Cum Laude, with special honors in English. As a young painter and printmaker, she studied under Oskar Kokoshka in Salzburg, Austria. In the early 1960s, she came to San Francisco to study with Richard Diebenkorn at the San Francisco Art Institute. Bay Area Figurative painting began with teachers at the California School of Fine Art. Leading artists were David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Joan Brown, Manuel Neri, Nathan Oliviera, Paul Wonner and Elmer Bischoff and Wayne Theibaud.
