Salvador Dali Surrealist Etching Engraving "The Crutches Of Uncle Celestin"

Chairish

$376

Vintage Collector's Edition art print by surrealist artist Salvador Dali entitled "The Crutches of Uncle Celestin". Crutches were an often used symbolic image in Dali's surrealism works, and figure most prominently in this piece. This work by Dali is one of several originally produced to illustrate the 1945 book of short stories by Maurice Sandoz entitled "Fantastic Memories". The work is dreamlike with Dali's cartouche signature in the printed plate at lower right. Framed in a black wood frame under glass with a turquoise mat. The original illustration by Dali dates to 1944, and we believe this print may date from that time or perhaps a bit later. The piece appears to have been framed in the 1970s judging from the mat color and frame style. If desired, this piece could be reframed with modern acid free materials, as there is some overall toning evident on the work and some smudginess under the glass likely from off-gassing of the present materials. However, it is suitable to be hung and enjoyed just as is, if so desired. The original certificate authenticating this piece as a limited collector's edition remains on the verso of the work. Image view area measures just over 6" wide x 9" tall. Total measurements including frame are 14.5" tall x 11.5" wide.
