A stock character of Russian marionette theatre since the 18th Century, set in St. Petersburg this is a burlesque tale of unrequited love. Charlatan brings the puppets to life and the story begins; Petrurushka loves the Ballerina, but she loves the Moor. The Russian ballet was composed by Stravinsky and Vaslav Nijinsky famously danced the title role.
