Sembler1960s Arthur Sembler Abstract Interior Painting

Chairish

$65

Abstract MCM interior by Virginia artist Arthur Sembler (1911/12-1979). Watercolor on artist board, signed lower left. Arthur Sembler was born in Brooklyn to an American father and British mother. He received training at the Art Students League in New York and was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 where he depicted laborers working on the state parks in New York. He later worked under another New Deal program: the Federal Art Project of the WPA. He lived in Hampton, VA from the late 1940s until his death, working first as an art director and clerk at Shapiro's Department Store, and then as art director of TV station WVEC for 20 years. At WVEC, his watercolors were seen over the closing moments of newscasts. His artist business card can be found on the back of many of his works declaring him to be "Sembler Artist" and listing his address on Grandview Beach, the location on the Chesapeake Bay which provided the inspiration for many of his seascapes, and the short walk to Grandview Nature Preserve which provided the sand for his beach scenes. Combined shipping available, please inquire. Actual shipping times are less than Chairish estimates. You can ask about that too.
