Set Of Three Antique French Still Life Prints, 17th C, N. Poilly, Paris's La Belle Image, Framed
Chairish$388
Offered are three vividly colorful French prints of still-life floral arrangements from the legendary engraver/printmaker Nicolas de Poilly -- engraver, print-publisher, print-seller, brother of François de Poilly; father of engraver and print-seller Jean-Baptiste de Poilly (1669-1728), François de Poilly the younger (1671-1723), painter Nicolas de Poilly (b. 1675). I have no idea how old these particular renderings are, where they were made, or how they were colored (they presumably were not when originally created). I will say that the images seem to be of very high quality. One image is clearly marked as being from N. Poilly's "La Belle Image" in Paris ("Ce vend a Paris chez N. de Poilly Rue St. Jacques (?) a La Belle Image Avec Privilege du Roi"). These are in superb condition (as evidenced by the photos) and beautifully (and expensively) framed in silver and gold finished wooden frames, under glass, and double matted (the interior mat has a faux marble-like finish, the larger one some subtle variations in the celadon color. The first large photo of the print on the left has some shadows from a tree). These frames measure 17 1/4 high overall and 14 across. The print area shows approximately 12 1/2 by 9. Whether you're a Francophile or just an admirer of fine art, these will delight. Arrange the three together for maximum impact or use them individually to brighten three locations.
