Van Horn, Houston, Texas Sibyl Edwards was born in Canada, she was a Texas artist who taught at the Dallas museum of Art in the 1940's along with well-known Dallas artists including Octavio Medellin, Otis Dozier, Merritt Mauzey, and Roger Winter. She was also a avid collector. Her collection included works by Max Bill, Herbert Distel, Hansjorg Glattfelder, the Belgian sculptor Paul Van Hoeydonck, Miguel Berrocal, Verena Loewensberg, Pol Bury gold sculptural rings, Jennifer Bartlett and Jiri Kolar. She is known for painting and minimalist constructivist sculpture. Geometric abstraction, Pop art, colorful optical art, linear functions, and geometric abstract op art. The artist's use of bright color is an exercise in color theory initiated by artists such as Josef Albers, Anni Albers and optical illusion artworks by Bridget Riley during the 1950s and 1960s. Her work bears a similarity to the other artists working the Op Art vein that coalesced around Denise Rene gallery in Paris. Victor Vasarely, Yaacov Agam, Cruz Diez and Jesus Rafael Soto to name a few. She excelled in the field of decorative art over the course of her life. She honed her practice as a professional artist into a focused discipline through which she seamlessly combined the complexity of mathematical algorithms with the beautiful simplicity of her intricate brushstrokes to create many unique and dazzling kinetic works of art. Her emphasis on color theory in tandem with her technical methods of gradient color application are clearly demonstrated in her work
