Sigmund Joseph Menkes (POLISH / UNITED STATES / NEW YORK, 1896 - 1986) watercolor work on paper depicting a seated woman. Laid over cardboard and mounted in frame. Menkes was a Polish-Jewish modern painter and a member of the School of Paris during the 1920's and 1930s, immigrating to the United States in 1935. His later work has been associated with colorist painting and expressionism. Paper measures approx. 16 7/8" height x 13 7/8" width. Measures approx. 30" height x 26" width overall including frame. Painting shows significant wear and loss.
