The pieces are reputed to have been sketched by Caruso of himself (based on similar pencil sketches and signature comparisons of the time period) and his friend Arturo around 1904 in New York City. Enrico Caruso (Italian pronunciation: [en'ri?ko ka'ru?zo]; February 25, 1873 – August 2, 1921) was an Italian operatic tenor. He sang to great acclaim at the major opera houses of Europe and the Americas, appearing in a wide variety of roles from the Italian and French repertoires that ranged from the lyric to the dramatic. Arturo Buzzi-Peccia (13 October 1854 – 29 August 1943) was an Italian singing instructor of Caruso's wife Dorothy, as well as of Alma Gluck and Speranza d'Alghieri.
