One of 29 fine handcoloured aquatint plates . Very light offsetting from plate. The original accompanying text of this print is as follows: 'This subject represents a private soldier of the corps described in the foregoing page: he is in the act of charging with the bayonet: in the back-ground a field of battle is represented. The individuals which compose the different corps of the Turkish armies. are in general possessed of the essential requisites of a soldier, hardihood and courage; and if the government was to adopt more of the modem military improvements and tactics of the other European nations, the Ottoman armies would soon become very formidable to their enemies.'
