"State 16" Geometric Abstract Collagraph Print by Patricia A. Pearce (American, b. 1948). This boldly geometric collagraph print by Patricia Pearce resembles a fragmenting landscape. The top section of the piece is rendered in a rich and deep red tone. This is then contrasted by the emerald green horizon, which at the top resembles mountains but then fragments into distinct geometric pieces. A small green dot above the center of the horizon gives the impression of a faint moon or sun. This landscape composition is then overlapped by the bold triangular shape which comprises a large portion of the image. Within this triangle, there is a white shape with red texturing and folds which are evocative of fabric. Unsigned, from a collection of the artist's works. Labeled "State 16" in bottom left corner. Her early work on paper explored images of garments using various printmaking techniques. Later, she began to work mainly in collagraph and monotype prints creating singular images of kimonos and ribbons in her subtle shifting, subdued pieces are constructed in a three-step process.
