The Gardener is inspired by a local gardener who I knew in San Francisco. He completely transformed a community garden plot from disarray to beauty. I would often pass him, with shovel in hand, tending to his flowers and his small vegetable plot. He was obviously content as he lovingly tended to what was before him. This was completed in several layers. One can see the patterning and texture from the various layers. Pencil and graphite was used in some of the layers. The sides are 'cradled' and do not need a frame. They are painted white. If purchased, a frame can be placed around the edges. This painting would look beautiful in a local flower store or other retail environment. It weighs 20 pounds.
