New York City Lower East Side Art on Canvas "The Lower X" Signed Daniel LaPorte. October 2017. The artwork was part of the "Rise in the City" NYC art competition, exhibition and auction event in 2017. The paper tag on the back reads as following: Frank de Biasi Interiors Daniel LaPorte The "Lower X" piece finds some of its inspiration from through the traditional Litema patterns of Lesotho. It is a modern interpretation where the fabric and its design are represented by the lower East Side buildings and spaces. It's repetitive pattern and dynamic colors is scattered around the canvas as homage to this vernacular geometry. I-Grace is an award winning builder in NYC The artwork was in the Rise in the City 2017 art competition. Rise International together with BOND Events, launched rise in the city; a unique art competition and auction raising money for local entrepreneurs in Lesotho, Africa, who are trying to solve their poverty problems for themselves. Manhattan has been split into 100 virtual blocks. The competition invites artists, designers and architecture firms to create a piece of art representing a block of the city, and infuse it with elements of Lesotho culture. All the incredible artworks were exhibited and auctioned at the rise in the city main event on October 25 2017 at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, NYC The event was attended by around 500 influencers from the design and architecture community.
