A tangle of legs, grass flying, hooves raining down from the 1,100-pound thoroughbreds straining at their maximum after charging the hedge at some 30 miles per hour. For the fallen rider and his mount, lives are forever changed in that split second. For one a career sidelined, for the other, a life ended. The artist, G. Billard, caught this terrifying instant as if it were a photo finish, and at the same time excelling as a sporting painter.
