An original oil painting on canvas laid onto wooden panel by Thomas Binney Gibbs, British artist 1870-1947, "To My Good Friend, H.R.S. - 1924" a half length side profile of a rosy cheek, dark haired young woman in a multi-colored draped blouse, 21 1/2" x 13 1/2", titled, signed and dated in the lower left corner front. At an early date the wooden panel was exposed to wood worm and the larvae consequently bored out of the panel and through sections of the canvas creating tiny holes. The larvae and the wood worm have long since exited the wooden panel and canvas and are no longer a threat to the painting. CA number 3964, CA purchased from an English auction house fall of 2024. The painting has been cleaned and varnished to protect the paint film. The 2" frame of bronze powder is original to the painting. It is antiqued and distressed. Gibbs was a portrait and landscape painter in oil colors as well as being a teacher. He studied at the Liverpool School of Art. His addresses were listed as Manchester - 1901 and London - 1915. From 1901-1938 he exhibited works at the Beaux Arts Gallery, the Chenil Gallery, the Goupil Gallery, the International Society, the Walker Art Gallery - Liverpool, the Manchester City Art Gallery, the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Walker's Gallery - London.
