Marthe Donas Tour Donas 1920 Original poster for the exhibition at Galerie 1900-2000 1986 60 x 40 cm Very Good Condition (see image) ___ This exhibition poster advertises a retrospective for Marthe Donas, held at the Galerie 1900-2000 in Paris from October 14 to November 8, 1986. As the first internationally recognised Belgian female avant-garde artist, Donas was a pioneer of Modernism. The featured artwork, Tour Donas 1920, showcases her signature blend of Cubism and Section d'Or geometry. Due to the heavy prejudices against women in the male-dominated art world, she frequently painted under the genderless pseudonym "Tour Donas" to ensure critics evaluated her art purely on its merit. Influenced by her close relationship with pioneering sculptor Alexander Archipenko, her paintings skilfully translate three-dimensional, fluid sculptural volumes onto flat canvas. This specific composition uses sharp, interlocking planes, overlapping geometric fragments, and highly saturated primary colours to depict dynamic, rhythmic motion. The poster highlights the late 20th-century rediscovery of a forgotten master of abstract modernism.
