17th-century Roman Maestro Title: Still life with parrot, fruit, flowers and metal jug on a cloth Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: without frame 64 × 118 cm - with frame 88 x 140 x 6 cm Black lacquered moulded wooden frame with gold profiles and groove Not signed This beautiful still-life is the work of an Italian artist, active in the artistic circle of Michele Pace del Campidoglio (Rome, 1610–1670). It depicts a green and yellow parrot who is holding with its beak a garland of flowers. The parrot is perched on a wicker basket which contains various flowers including roses, tulips. In the scene are present also a slice of watermelon, four apples and what looks like a kabocha squash, a type of winter squash. In the background we can also observe a greyish flower vase decorated with the image of a landscape, a bird and flowers. On the left side of the painting, which remains darker than the rest of the composition, you can see the outline of a fountain surrounded by plants.
