Untitled - Early Surrealist Pencil Drawing By Roberto Matta - 1950s 1950s

Chairish

$6,750

Surrealist Drawing is an exceptional pencil drawing by the artist Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren, who signed on the lower right of the paper “Matta”. The artwork is in very good conditions, except for some dark stains on the lower part of the paper. Matta was an important Chilean artist, protagonist of Surrealism and precursor of Abstract Expressionism. He lived in France in 1934, in America after WWII and then in Italy, where he moved in 1949, influencing with his work the contemporary Italian painters. In these years, he most likely realized the Surrealist Drawing, an abstract artwork, connected to the oneiric world and to “psychological morphologies”, typical in his painting: repetitive forms, vaguely natural, disturbing, and fascinating in their mysterious aspects. This is therefore an important artwork, rare, to include in your collection, by a great master of 20th-century painting. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
