$1,023

Tsukuda Sumiyoshi no yashiro (Sumiyoshi Shrine on Tsukuda Island) is the original title of this superb ten colour woodblock print on paper, by the Japanese master, Utagawa Hiroshige II (Shigenobu), (Japan 1797-1858). This plate is from the Edo Meisho series (“Famous Places in Edo), dated 185.3 Prov.: Property from a Wurttemberg private collection, assembled between the 1950s and 2000. Good condition, except for a missing piece on margin lower left, with usual aging signs (the missing lower left corner, some yellowings and abrasions of the paper). Despite of this imperceptible defects, this specimen is completely readable and intact. Unframed. Collect an amazing Japanese landscape animated by female characters and realized by one of the most popular master of ukiyo-e art, Utagawa Hiroshige II, that inherited the name of “Hiroshige” after the death of his master (1858). This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
