This is an early 18th century etching of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge in Venice entitled "Altra Veduta del Ponte di Rialto" by Domenico Lovisa, first published in in 1720 in Venice in "Il Gran Teatro di Venezia" (The Great Panorama of Venice). It depicts many boats transporting goods and and gondola water taxis carrying people on the Grand Canal, some heading under the Rialto Bridge on the left. In the foreground workers deal with fish, barrels of wine or beer and sacks of grain amid dogs, children playing and adults performing various tasks or conversing. Venetian buildings are seen in the background and in the foreground on the right. There is a legend in the lower inscription region which identifies buildings and landmarks in the scene. This excellent strong and detailed 18th century etching is printed on thick, laid, chain-linked paper with wide margins. The sheet measures 16.5" high by 22" wide. There are scattered small faint spots, a tiny tear at the upper edge of the right margin, as well as remnants of a thin strip of hinging material along the upper edge of the verso. The print is otherwise in very good condition.
