Venice Grand Canal Painting By Italian Artist Franco Baroni

Chairish

$300

Acrylic painting on wood by Italian professor and artist Franco Baroni depicts a view of St Mark’s Campanile, the bell tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy, located in Saint Mark's Square near the mouth of the Grand Canal. Pale yellow buildings are flanked by blue sky and aqua-green water, with several gondola boats grouped in front of them. Impressionist style, signed by the artist in the bottom left corner 'F Baroni'. A label on the back confirms the provenance of a previous studio address of the artist in Piazzo Porto Vecchio, Malcesine. Here is the artist's bio, written around 1956, that I found online, attached to a separate Franco Baroni painting and translated to English: 'Having completed his academic education in the Fine Arts, he moved to America in 1920, where he studied for a few years at the Art Institute in Chicago. His interest in new pictorial motifs took him to Alaska, Canada, as far as Taranto and Montreal. Back in Italy he was very close to Segantini and Fornara, and in Paris he met the impressionist sculptor Paolo Troubetzkoy. Accepted into the Fine Arts Union in 1930, he became a member of the Lake Maggiore Landscape Museum and took over its direction in 1936. For twenty years he has lived in Malcesine where he developed his works in the impressions of the dazzling colors of Benaco'.
