Up for sale is this vintage print from a 1943 collection by acclaimed illustrator Clare Turlay Newberry, one of a collection of such prints we are currently selling. It is matted in a 14" x 18" acid-neutral mat for ease of framing in a standard-sized frame and is in very good, gently-used condition, as pictured, with a fold along one edge behind mat. Each print has a notation as to the origin of the illustration in the lower corner. About the artist: Clare Turlay Newberry (1903-1970) was an American author and illustrator of 17 published children's books. She achieved fame for her drawings of cats, the subject of all but three of her books. She was born in Eugene, Oregon and studied art at the University of Oregon, School of the Portland Art Museum, the California School of Fine Arts, and La Grand Chaumière in Paris, France. She received the Caldecott Honor for four of her books and remains beloved for her renderings of felines, who lived with her to be her models.
