She enjoyed a career working as a fashion designer for Ria and a display artist at Marshall Fields in Chicago and Boston Store in Milwaukee. She was a locally recognized artist who was commissioned to paint the portrait of Olympia Brown that is hung at the Olympia Brown School in Racine, Wisconsin. She studied under John Parsons, a well-known portrait painter at Wustum Museum in the early 1970's where most of her art work was painted. She was known as Jo McNeill at the time.
