Drama palms: original Juan Guzman oil on board in new bamboo-style frame. The colors are amazing: dark jewel tones with bright blue and pink accents. The loose strokes, light texture, and colors contribute to a unique sense of movement. Feel the palms sway. One of a kind. Juan Guzman-Maldonado (1948 - 2022) was active/lived in California / Chile. Born in Chile in 1948, he moved to California in 1972. Previously influenced by Fauvism and Expressionism in his object and non-objective painting, Guzman-Maldonado began painting the California landscape, en plein air, very early in the morning or right before sunset. He cited Charles Reiffel, Maurice Braun and Charles Fries as influences. He began painting with his fingers and realized that objects performed better than the paint brush. His palette became heavy and colors abstracted from the sun were moved onto masonite board, creating timeless imagery. Thank you for your interest. Please let me know if you have any questions.
