Vintage Late 20th Century Oil/acrylic “Sweet Annie”

Chairish

$900

This lovely oil or acrylic portrait of a young woman dates from the early 1990’s. I was told when I purchased it that it was titled “Sweet Annie” after the Sweet Annie plants that the woman is touching in the meadow. Also referred to as sweet wormwood. sweet annie is a tall annual herb, producing small flowers having a sweet aroma. This painting was purchased at the Museum Shop of the South Bend Museum of Art and is signed by the artist. It is likely that the artist was a local or regional artist active in the Michiana area of Indiana and Michigan at that time, since that is what the shop sold . I have never quite managed to decipher the bold, red signature of the artist. I bought it because I loved it. The painting itself is finely executed with the blues in the sky and dress and the greens of the surrounding meadow pulling you into the scene. .
