Up for sale is this beautiful lithoograph from an original watercolor by French artist Marius Hubert-Robert. Entitled "Porte de Ngo-Mon au Palais Imperial" (Hue - The Ngo-Mon Gate of the Imperial Palace), it was published as part of a portfolio of his views of Indo-China in 1933. Measuring 9 7/8" x 12 5/8", it is matted in an acid-neutral 16x20 mat for ease of framing in a readymade frame. It is in excellent condition with some age toning at the outer deckled edges of the paper. About the artist: Hubert Robert was born in Paris in 1885. He is the great-great nephew of the celebrated landscape painter Hubert Robert (1733-1808). His artistic ancestry also includes Aphonse Robert (his grandfather) who was the private painter of Louis Philippe I, and Jean-Francois Robert (his great-grandfather, Professor of painting at the Grand Duchy of Tuscany during the Napoleonic Era. Hubert-Robert mounted notable exhibitions at the Salon des Indépendants in 1929, at the Société des Artistes Français, at the Société Nouvelle des Beaux Arts, and at the Salon d'Hiver. He was sponsored by the Astor family for a decade, allowing him to travel extensively, notably to the United States and Canada, but also to Africa (Morocco and Egypt), Greece and Indochina. He also worked with the magazine L'Illustration (circa 1930 - 1938).
