Vr, Cubist Instrumentalist, Oil On Board, 1950s

Chairish

$1,269

Cubist Instrumentalist', oil on board (circa 1940s - 50s), by artist with initials V.R. The cubist movement as conceived by Picasso and Georges Braque in the early 20th-century used flat planes of colour and complex puzzle-like compositions echoing the arrangements of cut out paper with which the style originated. This work from the 'School of Berlin' from the period just after WWII certainly draws its inspiration from this movement. In this case, colours on the subject are separated by lines, sharp angles and the occasional curve and circle as if it were being viewed through a prism. It presents itself subtly to the viewer in time. There are earth-toned hues, vibrant yellows with blues contrasted by darker, more serious tones and bold lines. It is a sizeable work with fascinating charm. Recently framed with gold-coloured insert and in very good vintage condition commensurate with age. This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
