A substantial and atmospheric oil on canvas showing a view of the interior of a smart Parisian restaurant with a fashionably-dressed young lady seated by a window and gazing expectantly out at a busy boulevard where pedestrians and a horse-drawn carriage pass beneath trees showing lush spring growth. Exceptional handling of light and of the detail in all areas including figural work and costume and, particularly, in the finely-realised still-life of roses.
