Kalot studied at the State Academy of Arts and Applied Arts in Breslau and the University of the Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg. His teachers included Otto Mueller and Emil Orlik, among others. After the war, Kalot worked as chief graphic designer at AEG in Berlin. During his work in Berlin, he built a second home and his own studio and was active as a freelance artist.
