Woodpeckers, Sonnerat's Pygmy: A 19th C. Gould Hand-Colored Lithograph, 1850

Chairish

$975

This is a hand-colored folio sized lithograph entitled "Iyngipicu Maculatus" (Sonnerat's Pygmy Woodpeckers) by John Gould from his monograph "The Birds of Asia", published in London in 1850-1883. The print, which was drawn by Gould and W. Hart and lithographed by Hullmandel and Walton, depicts two striped dark brown and ivory-colored woodpeckers with white and brown on their heads. Both are perched on tree limbs with pea green and grey-colored leaves. This beautiful Gould hand-colored woodpecker lithograph measures 21" x 14.13". There are barely perceptible faint thin linear spots in the upper portion of the print. The print is otherwise in excellent condition. The original text page is included with a round blindstamp in the right lower corner.
