In addition to teaching in Munich, Salzburg, and Saarland, he primarily created paintings, watercolors, gouaches, aquatints, and etchings, as well as some lithographs and linocuts. He developed an aquatint technique in which he printed each individual etching exclusively from the three primary colors yellow, blue, and red. He etched three plates in countless fine gradations, scraping lights and symbols from the fine-grained structures, and achieved extraordinary color differentiation in the print with luminous layers of color of velvety, shimmering depth.
