Zoran Mušic, Venice, 1959, Pastel Drawing On Paper, Framed

Chairish

$7,780

Venice is an original modern artwork realized by Zoran Mušic in 1959. Mixed colored pastel drawing on paper. Includes frame. Hand signed and dated on the lower margin. Anton Zoran Mušic (12 February 1909 – 25 May 2005). Born in Gorizia in 1909, he studied at the Zagreb Academy of Art. His painting looked both at the Austrian secessionism of artists such as Klimt and Schele, absorbing their use of color in balance between symbolism and decoration, and at French impressionism, from which he took the delicate tonal passages. He was one of the great protagonists of the Resistance and for this reason he was interned in Dachau, where he managed to secretly portray the horrendous life of the concentration camp. He was released only in 1945 and worked between Venice and Paris, where he moved in the early 1950s. In 1951 he won the "Paris Prize" on the recommendation of two other Italian artists, Campigli and Severini. His canvases were evocations of reality imbued with memories and emotions especially in the works of his maturity, where the naturalistic references faded more and more into chromatic variations. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
