Wall lamp "Sorcier" - Marta BakowskiDimensions: 22 W x 9 D x 46.5 H cmMaterials: Painted metalDifferent colors are availableSorcier is a wall light inspired by the ritual Ngil masks of the Fang tribe in Gabon. The light diffuses through the perforations in the mask and shines upward in a graphic and gentle way. It changes personality depending on the combination of colors, textures and perforated patterns, which vary in each version. The designer spent a lot of time in Central Africa with the Fang who still are the main ethnic group in Guinea and spread across Gabon and Cameroon. She drew her inspiration from the ritual objects and the strong graphic identity before combining it to modern manufacturing to create this collection. More than a light, Sorcier is a sculpture.Marta Bakowski’s designs are a celebration of colors and materials, two predominating elements which are often the starting point of her projects. Her objects follow simple and graphical shapes with an Elementary functionality, thus leaving room for tactility and expressive qualities while encouraging imagination, interpretation and appropriation.By working with dualities and de-contextualisations, her designs are a game of oppositions, contrasts and hijacks. Thus, natural materials meet with technological ones, crafts flirt with Industry and Primitive inspirations transform into pop and modern translations. For the designer it is a matter of elaborating a language thanks to which objects acquire a function that goes beyong practicality. By creating links and strong evocations through the development of aesthetical values, her aim is to touch the ‘emotionnal’ and encourage relationships between users and object.
