Far from being simple painted ceramics, Talavera pieces are the result of a complex artisanal process that transforms natural clays and mineral pigments into luminous glazed surfaces through multiple firings.The piece is created by master artisan César Torres, who learned the craft in the renowned workshop of the Uriarte family, one of Puebla’s most respected Talavera ateliers where his grandfather once worked. Following ancestral techniques, César works with traditional black and white clays sourced from the hills of Loreto and Guadalupe near Puebla. The mineral pigments used in the decoration are prepared in his workshop using recipes passed down through generations.Each tile is entirely handmade and goes through an extensive production process that typically takes one to two months, including molding, drying, firing, glazing and hand-painting.Today, César Torres works together with his son César Torres Jr., an architect who brings a contemporary perspective to the workshop.
