The Louis XV style gilt cast bronze figural wall sconce is from the late 19th Century. The two-light sconce featuring a nude male figure against a shaped back, issuing a pair of tassels and scrolled arms terminating in candle cups. One glass shade is missing. The most compelling part of this sconce features a male figure who appears to be tending reins in a nautical setting like the Greek god Poseidon or Neptune from Roman mythology. It is stunning The figure appears to be in motion or engaged in movement and thought, judging by the espression on its face. The gilt patina is worn, but the beauty still comes through and we can only imagine the presentation when it was created in the late 1800s. It is unmarked. CONDITION: This is in generally good condition with some rubbing and variation to patina. This piece is extremely heavy and will require professional installation.
