Pair Of 1980s Art Nouveau Styled Wall Sconces With Marquetry Panels

Chairish

$819

Offering a pair of large and visually arresting wall sconces. Their design elements certainly suggest the 1890-1910 period, with the Nouveau-styled ribbon at the top and the ornate embellishments at every turn. And let’s not forget about that mythical face grinning at us from below the center (Iron John’s “Green Man?”). The marquetry panels, with their old-European male and female figures, are additions and probably a lot older than the sconces themselves. I bought these sconces in Belgium. They appear to be made of silver-plated brass; the craftsmanship is superior. The electric candles are European, but they work fine with American candelabra bulbs which come in a wide variety of decorative sizes, with wattages up to 60 each. They work in these European sockets because I'm sending, along with the sconces, four bulb extenders -- small brass items which screw onto the bottom of your bulbs and then into the candle sockets. Presto, they work like a charm!! One candle cover is missing (two are shown in the photos, but there is a matching third which will be included); the interior diameter of the candle covers is about 7/8". The wiring is intact and functioning perfectly. I don’t know how old these sconces are, but I’m guessing they’re at least 50 years old. Highly decorative, they provide significant “wall power.” Measurements: 20 inches high, 11 ¾ wide. They project about 5 ¼ inches from the wall. The oval marquetry plaques measure about 4 high, 3 wide.
