Early 18th Century Hand Painted Wallpaper Archival Frame

Chairish

$1,950

This is a piece of wallpaper that was salvaged from an historically important building erected in 1703 and demolished in about 1940. The building, called the Parker castle, was in Perth Amboy, New Jersey which was at the time the capitol of Pre-Revolutionary East New Jersey. In its early years the house was visited by such dusinguished people as William Franklin, who was estranged from his father, Benjamin Franklin, because of his continuing loyalty to the British Crown. It is my understanding that the outlines were block printed and the design hand painted with tempera or similar paint. The piece is in remarkably good condition for its age and has been matted and framed with archival matterials. Google Lens indicates the design depicts the entry gate of a monumental European palace.
